You're right, seminar are profitable. Every single friend I have in this industry I met at a seminar, or through Paulie, who met them at a seminar :) Going to an event does cost money. There's the flight, hotel, meals, drinks.. and the continuing education that I always make a point to purchase when I'm there (good karma and I have an impressive IM library). But the JVs, partnerships and friendships I've created over the years have far outweighed the out of pocket costs, both financially and personally.
